John Duffy studied chemical engineering (BS) and organic chemistry at Villanova University and Drexel University. He worked for many years at Bostik in management of technology for site-reactive products for construction and industry, retiring from Bostik after serving as their Chief Technology Officer. John’s personal technical focus at Bostik was in polyurethane and silane-functional polymers, and innovative adhesives and sealants made from them. A few of those products changed the way that entire industries did their jobs. Prior to Bostik, he worked at H.B. Fuller in construction products development.

In 2012, John launched Easterly Research, an independent laboratory for product development and technical service in silane-terminated polymer/silane hybrids and resultant finished products. John and his technical staff work for a limited number of creative adhesive, sealant, and coatings companies in technology development, polymer design and synthesis, and formulation of marketable products. In addition, they develop unique products for which they have identified unfilled needs and supply these solutions to those active in the market channel, either through a manufacturing partner or technical licensing. These products occupy the range from Shore 00 to high Shore D.

The expertise of John and his team at Easterly Research extends into understanding of global supply chains for silane hybrids, delivering the most competitive and cost-effective solutions and products. They function as an R&D outsource and partner with high expertise and market exposure in these new and exciting silane hybrid chemistries. Their laboratory is located in Warminster, PA, USA.

Why should you view this course?

Being into 1K PU adhesives and roof coatings formulation, you know that the next industry move will be Hybrid Silanes. They perform better and are more eco-friendly. Only this is a brand new chemistry to master, with its very large design flexibility…Join this course and:

  1. Understand the basic chemistry, the various raw material options, and latest cost-effective strategies for formulating hybrid silane products.

  2. Identify where your opportunity lies by exploring current applications in Construction, Industrial, and DIY, as well as emerging applications such as:

    • 2K products as elastic adhesives,
    • 1K products with low water requirements,
    • White roof coatings...
  3. Clarify performance targets that are essential to stay competitive in the market and meet the demands of finished products.
